Hebrews 8:13 In that He says, “A new covenant.” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.
A new covenant was created when Jesus came and sacrificed Himself to save us from our sin. This was much needed and exclusively inclusive. The Old Testament was a covenant with Abraham and his descendants. This was supposed to be a covenant to use the Israelite’s to spread God to the world.
This covenant did not fail but it turned exclusive and was not inclusive. This is not what God intended but it fulfilled its purpose. It brought and boasted of the “Law of Moses.” The law was brought to us, to teach everyone that it could not be fulfilled by man. It was to point us to the New covenant. The Israelite’s failed to spread the old covenant and turned inward and excluded the rest of the world.
Jesus came and fulfilled the “Law of Moses.” He paid the penalty for us breaking the law. His blood, His sacrifice paid the penalty for sin once and for all. This fulfilled the law. He brought the new covenant after His death. This was made inclusive by Him. He died for all men, not just the Jewish man.
What is the fulfillment and promise of the new covenant? That if we accept Jesus as fully God and fully man. That if we acknowledge this and Him dying and being resurrected, therefore conquering sin and death. Then we can be a part of the new covenant. We can be justified by His blood. This is what the whole bible is all about. Jesus! How wonderful is He!
