Judges 6:12 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him. “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
The term “Angel of the LORD” appears several times in the Old Testament. It is a reference to Jesus. This is just another example of Jesus being the subject of the whole Bible, Old and New Testament. He had heard a call of mercy from Israel after sinning against Him. He sat under a tree and watched Gideon threshing wheat in a winepress.
Now, the first thing we should understand is that a winepress is no place to thresh wheat. It was usually a low place. Threshing was done on a high place so the wind could blow the chaff away. So what was Gideon doing there? He was hiding from the Midianites. People who had been raiding his country and stealing their food.
Jesus calls out, “Mighty man of valor!” Strange, right? A man hiding trying to thresh wheat because he was scared of the raiders. But Jesus called him a mighty man of valor. Why? Just like when He chose David to be the next king of Israel after Saul. Jesus sees the heart of a man.
He does not see where you are when you are at your worst. He sees you after you meet Him and the affect He has on your life. He sees the saved person you can become. One where the sin has been forgiven and you are living for Him. This is our loving God. Will you trust Him today?
