Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
There is a highway in Houston, Texas that is considered the widest in the world. It’s name is the Katy Freeway. In places, it is 26 lanes wide and accommodates over 200,000 cars. This is a feature of American culture. We love to travel because we love the feeling of freedom it brings. In many ways we can compare this traveling mindset to spiritual matters. In fact, Jesus spoke about this by speaking of the roads we travel.
“Narrow is the gate and difficult is the way,” is a perfect description of a road which is difficult to navigate. Jesus tells us to think hard about His offer and consider what accepting Him means. Jesus was beaten, spit on and widely hated by the world. This is how the world will treat you because of Him. The world system which is controlled by Satan is like the Katy Highway. It accommodates a large number and it leads somewhere. When you follow the world’s road which is wide and easy, the direction is a place of destruction. It calls you to the hateful thoughts which persecutes Christians.
So you are on one of two roads. One looks wide and has an ease of travel. The other is narrow and difficult. Which will you choose? Before you do, first think of the final destination. One is called heaven. Jesus has told us He has gone back to make a home for you. The other is a place of destruction, fire and true pain. It was not made for man, but man will be judged and put there. The choice between the two is the belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Plan your trip well!
