Proverbs 29:23 A mans pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.
One of the seven deadly sins is a proud look. A person who thinks he is better and more deserving than another is prideful. Why is pride so deadly? Because pride is what caused Lucifer to be cast our of heaven. He said in his heart that he would be above his creator. He would be better than God Himself.
If pride can cause an angel like Lucifer, who is in a perfect place and surrounded by the greatest things, to fall then what about us? We are in a cursed world full of sinful people that is under the influence of the one kicked out of heaven. What is it that we have to be prideful of? Our bodies give out, our money fails and our possessions decay. Pride should not be in our minds.
Being humble in spirit allows us to view pride in the light of reality. It is hurtful, a thief and leads to destruction. Only God deserves to be honored and praised. Being humble is a reflection of that knowledge in our lives. Do you have the knowledge that God is a gracious and forgiving Lord? If not I pray you earnestly ask yourself why?
